Case study: UTS social sustainability stripout waste pilot
A social sustainability case study of how a UTS strip-out diverted 79% of waste from landfill and donated this used furniture and equipment to schools in the Cook Islands. The project applied the Better Buildings Partnership Strip-out Waste Guideline principles. it was made possible with help from the local Cook Island community in Sydney, UTS student volunteers along with crowd-sourced fundraising contributing to the cost of shipping.
The project diverted over 1000 chairs, 600 desks, seven whiteboards and seven data projectors from landfill and gave these items a new home.
