2021 BBP Annual Report

2021 marks the 11th year of the Better Buildings Partnership. Another year which coincided with great upheaval, with catastrophic floods and extreme weather events, and continued disruption as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The partnership represents 52% of commercial floor space and 87 office buildings across the City of Sydney. Together we take collective action to unlock complex barriers to sustainable change.

75% of BBP members are committed to achieving net zero emissions across scope 1 and 2 by 2030 and 5 members are certified carbon neutral. This builds off a 63% reduction in emissions from 2006. We have also seen a 49% reduction in energy and a 65% reduction in potable water from 2006.

In the next three years we will turn our attention to:

  • moving the sector to more circular methods of procurement, use and recovery of materials
  • delivering efficient buildings running on renewables and that invest in offsets that create biodiversity and other co-benefits
  • creating buildings and places that are sustainable, resilient, and inclusive

Together we will use our leadership to recover from the pandemic and tackle the climate emergency.
